While one could argue the computer industry provides creative opportunities for its employees, at the end of the day you can’t eat your work.

After 15 years in the technology trenches, Rowena Sy-Santos ditched her job to follow her dream of baking for living.

Next week, that dream brings her to South Chelmsford where she plans to operate kéyks, a bakery specializing in custom-made cakes and Filipino sweets.

“This is what I’m passionate about,” Sy-Santos said. “It combines what I love to do: being creative and baking.”

As a business, Kéyks, pronounced cakes, has been around for awhile as an on-line venture. Customers ordered from the site and Sy-Santos created the flour and sugar creations in the kitchen of her Waltham home.

On the site, Sy-Santos provides dozens of pictures of past culinary creations none of which would be out of place on an episode of “Cake Boss” or “Ace of Cakes.”
